Dear Members and Friends:
As we celebrate the end of another year and look forward to the challenges of 2022, I want to pause and recognize our Club's accomplishments. Navigating COVID-19 presented many challenges. We held meetings via ZOOM and attended virtual Conventions; several members attended the DWCF Gala in front of computers dressed in fancy tops and enjoying our favorite drink! We celebrated being together in August on Alvin Peters and Cecile Scoon Law Offices lawn, and thanks to Gulf Coast Assault Program, we had our first indoor meeting in October.
Below is a list of highlights from this year:
This year we provided legislative updates and held a training class to teach members how to use the DWCF spreadsheet and other website materials.
We participated in: National Federation of Democratic Women virtual convention, Gay the Hathway/Social Justice Walk, Juneteenth Festival, and Lynn Haven's July 4 Event. In March and June, we scheduled Business Meetings.
November, we launched our Grassroots Campaign – texting over 8100 DEMS to message about Vote by Mail. We recently started our second texting project with the DEC. We also stuffed and mailed five hundred letters to newly registered DEMs to encourage registering for Vote by Mail.
We are just getting started! In January, we have over 1,000 letters to mail. Working with the Young Dems, we have doors we must knock. The week of February 14, Region 1 will go to Tallahassee for our Tally Days event; we will meet with our legislators, attend legislative sessions, and participate in other activities.
The 2022 MLK Event is Monday, January 17, in Lynn Haven at Sheffield Park, 10 AM – 4 PM. We will need volunteers to help setup, close and oversee the booth.
Our monthly meetings are on the third Thursday of the month. We are kicking January off with an in-person business meeting on January 20, 2021. Watch your email for more details.
We look forward to partnering with the DEC, The Young DEMS, Veterans Caucus, and the Democratic Black Caucus to execute Democratic initiatives in 2022.
I hope you will join our Club and take this journey with us to fight for democracy, to be the right in a world full of contradictions because we will need your energy and your fight in 2022 to put Democrats in offices in
the state of Florida.
